About Us
During our interregnum we are responding positively to maintain St John’s as a centre for Christian worship for the people of our parish and to continue:
to build a vibrant forward looking church in the catholic Anglican tradition, to be a welcoming church which nurtures the faith and spiritual growth of its members and to find new ways of connecting with God’s people in the community.Our Electoral Roll has increased since 2019 with the complete renewal of the roll.
Future plans include the ‘dream’ of constructing a new hall in the Vicarage grounds to be shared by both church and school. Ultimately we also intend to replace the bell tower which was dismantled following a storm in 1995.
Outreach into the community is very much part of our mission at St John’s. We are keen fundraisers for the North London Hospice which is situated in the parish. The church also has historical links to Baxendale Woodside Home a retirement home located on the site of Woodside House - originally the home of Joseph Baxendale one of the founders of St. John’s.
Particularly noteworthy has been our support for the night shelter initiative, originated by Churches Together in Finchley, of providing accommodation for the homeless in church halls throughout the winter months. We have hosted Thursday nights for the last 3 years in our church hall (this year from October to December with Finchley Reform Synagogue taking over for January to March) which involved volunteers from our congregation, together with other volunteers, mainly from other churches, providing an evening meal, friendship and social interaction, a bed for the night and breakfast in the morning.
