The Friends of St John's Church Modern Benefactors Appeal

You can remember a loved one, celebrate a special occasion, club together as a family, share your support as a business....

After a year-long struggle and the suspension of our main Fabric Appeal, the Rector and PCC are pleased to be able to announce that we now have permission to go ahead with our Thanksgiving Boards, celebrating the generosity of so many who have raised or given money to support the ongoing repair and renewal of this landmark Church at the heart of Failsworth.

At the West End of Church on the back walls of our new community space, we will have this leaves and branches design, based on a biblical image. The idea is to have the names of those community groups, individuals, families and businesses who have given a minimum of £500, to have their names (or the names of loved ones), engraved on the leaves. The design also allows us to add inscriptions now - from those we have already received and from any who choose to become part of this first round now. There will also be opportunities to become a Friend and Benefactor of St John’s at any time in the future.

The plan is to get the Boards made by the end of November, so there is a deadline of Sunday 16th November for those wishing to have an inscription this time round. Because of the cost of getting the boards made and each leaf individually inscribed, we respectfully ask for a minimum donation of £520. Please understand that when the Appeal was launched, some people raised through fundraising or personally gave as much as £5,000. Without that early, committed and generous support, we would not have been able to get the work done at the back of church.

With money ‘in the pot’ from these donations, we will be able to ‘match fund” for further grants as we look to renew the lighting, repair the plasterwork, redecorate the rest of the church and replace the windows in the West End.
