Getting hereSt Chad's, also known as Rochdale Parish Church, is on Sparrow Hill (Postcode: OL16 1QT) and tells the town's story from Saxon times. Built and rebuilt over the generations, it has stonework dating back to the 13th and 4th centuries. A wall in the churchyard is reputed to be pre 1066. Splendid stained glass includes the Edward Burne-Jones 'Faith Hope and Charity' window in the tower. This is a place where worship has taken place of long centuries and you are invited to come and experience a warm welcome. St Mary in the Baum, is on St Mary's Gate, (Postcode: OL16 1DZ) and was founded in 1740 as a chapel of ease of St Chad's to minister to the people living north of the River Roch. Today's church, designed by eminent church architect Sir Ninian Comper, was opened in 1911, described as "a place rich in Comperisms."
