ST JOHN THE EVANGELIST CHURCH HURST, ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE JOB DESCRIPTION: VOLUNTEER MINIBUS DRIVER We are looking to build a team of volunteer mini-bus drivers to help transport older people and those with limited mobility to and from our church. POSITION DESCRIPTION: On a rota, you will be asked to: • Drive St John’s minibus to collect and carry multiple members of our congregation from their homes to church to attend services and events, returning them to their homes afterwards. • The priority events would be our Sunday morning services and Wednesday Welcome (Place of Welcome) – collecting passengers and arriving at church for 10am, taking them home at 12noon. Please note that the time of our Sunday services may alter. • Assist passengers onto the bus, and to their seats where required, including manoeuvring wheelchairs onto and off the chair lift and propelling into church as needed. • Carry out the role with due attention to the Health and Safety of passengers. • Plan and organise efficient collection routes. • Check the vehicle before and after journeys, identifying faults. • Report any faults or work requirements to one of the following church officers, seeking authorisation before any work is undertaken. QUALIFICATIONS: We ask that you: • Possess a clean and valid driving licence with D1 category listed and are not medically restricted. (People who took their driving test before 1st Jan 1997 have D1 category on their licence until they are 70.) · Have a good understanding of the needs of older people · Be professional and supportive with a friendly disposition to ensure passengers enjoy their journeys · Be reliable and punctual, as our passengers rely on the minibus to attend church services and functions. • Respect the dignity and privacy of all passengers. • Have an enthusiasm and vitality for this role.
