Act of Remembrance on Armistice Day

for 30 mins
Newcastle Cathedral
St Nicholas Square Newcastle, NE1 1PF, United Kingdom

Gather with us on the eleventh day of the eleventh month – the anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War – for a short act of remembrance led by the Dean of Newcastle. The service will conclude with the laying of poppies, honouring all who have served and sacrificed in times of conflict.

Please note: This act of remembrance will not be live-streamed. It will take place inside the West Entrance, near the font. We will lay poppies at the Baptistry screen, which was added to commemorate those who fell during the First World War.

Newcastle Cathedral

Newcastle Cathedral, the only cathedral in the UK dedicated to St Nicholas, is the mother church of the Diocese and a vibrant hub of prayer and welcome. Its striking 15th-century Lantern Tower, a landmark visible across the city, has guided generations to its doors. Located in the city centre, the Cathedral offers daily services, including morning prayer, Eucharist, and choral worship, as well as opportunities for quiet reflection. Clergy and volunteers serve the community with warmth and dedication, supporting all who seek faith or fellowship. Visitors can explore historic architecture, enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, and take part in events celebrating creativity, justice and hope. All are warmly invited to join in worship and community life.
