Wheelchair access is via the north entrance then following the footpath at the east end of the church building to join up with the footpath to the south of the church then via the ramp up to the church door.

The church has a sound system which includes a loop system for those with hearing difficulties who wear hearing aids.


Our Building

Some of the small panels of glass in the North and South windows date to the 14th and 15th century, many of the other windows depict the Northern Saints.

Grade 2 listed building re-built in 1870 on the site of an existing Norman church and consecrated in 1871.
St Mary's celebrated 150 years of the new church on October 31st 2021 and a new banner was dedicated for anniversary by the then Bishop of Newcastle, The Rt. Revd. Christine Hardiman.

Post office operates twice weekly Monday 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm and Friday 9:15 am - 10:45 am
Coffee shop operates alongside the post office opening hours serving Tea/Coffee and biscuits/cakes.


Music and Worship

St Mary's has a ring of eight carillon bells the largest of which the Tenor bell, is 1.4 metres in diameter and weighs 1524 Kg

St Marys promotes a number of community social events to raise funds for the church, these can include a Bangers and mash evening with Quiz, a Ladies champagne evening, music concerts both inside and outside of the church and a community Christmas lunch held in the village hall along with Italian and Indian dining events which raise funds and support local businesses.

The organ was built by Nicholson Bros for the church in 1871, the organ has two manual keyboards, the Swell and the Great and a third note pedal board

Book of Common Prayer Services

Sunday services are supported by a small choir of ladies, new members are always welcome to come and join the choir. Please contact one of the churchwardens if you require more information


Groups, Courses and Activities

The group meet about four times a year to join in a number of activities including ten pin bowling, indoor climbing wall and ice skating.
