About Us

Farthinghoe church is a beautiful ancient and ageless church,  peaceful and steeped in prayer - a welcoming Christian focus for the whole village.

We are an active and enthusiastic church in the heart of our village. Many come to see our historic building, or famous monuments, but it is the people that really make St. Michael and All Angels' special. We have wonderful volunteers who mow, clean, arrange flowers, and provide music for our services.

At our heart we are an open community of prayer. We welcome anyone in to join us as we pray for the world, our village, and ourselves. If you have never been before you are welcome to join us; if you have been you already know this.

Our building and grounds: The foundations of our parish dates back to our Monastic origins. Originally a daughter house of Leicester Abbey, the remains of the monastic builders of Farthinghoe can be seen al around us. Limes Farm and the old Tythe Barn there once held the Abbey's harvest. The Fishponds next to the churchyard once fed the monks. The Old Rectory next-door was the living quatres until the Reformation. The ancient arch in the garden stands testament to this past, as does the extra wide arch in the base of the tower, which used to provide the main entrance from the cloisters to the church.

Our tower has a rare one handed clockface that dates from the 1600s, and has monuments attesting to the generations of care and service that has maintained it for centuries. The clock mechanism is visible through a special window at the inside base of the tower thanks to restoration work around the millennium.

Our Vestry hosts a popular monthly Coffee Morning, and is one of the largest Vestries in the county. This is due to its past use as the parish school, and named coat hooks still line part of the wall. The Village School next door was originally founded as a Church School, and it continues to serve our village to this day.

Our church has stood at the center of our village since time immemorial. We have at least three services a month, with start times from 9.15am to 5.30pm. We welcome young and old, and services range from traditional Book of Common Prayer Evening Prayer, to Parish Communions, to our popular Crib Service in December.

St. Michael and All Angels' is a wonderful place where we celebrate God in the place we call home, which is a place that He has made for us to live and know Him. You are welcome here.

We look forward to seeing you.
