SERVICES IN THE PARISH OF PORTSDOWN AND PURBROOK
On most Sundays we have services in the Parish at 8.00am, 9.30am and 11.00am. Once or twice a month, we also have a service at 6.00pm.
The 8.00 Service is a quiet service of Holy Communion with no music. This takes place at St John’s from the Sunday after Easter until the end of September and at Christ Church from the first Sunday of October until Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Easter).
**(NOTE: While we are in interregnum this service is held on the first Sunday of each month, at Christ Church.)**
The 9.30 Service at St John’s is a traditional service. On most Sundays the service includes Holy Communion, but on the first Sunday of each month the service is usually a simple worship service or a baptism. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service in the church hall.
The 11.00 Service at Christ Church is the least formal of our morning services. On the first and third Sunday of each month it usually includes Holy Communion. On the second Sunday four times a year there is a Parade Service, supported by our attached uniformed youth groups. Services on the fourth and fifth Sundays may include a baptism. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in the church before the service, from around 10.30am, and afterwards.
NOTE: Around six times each year we combine the 9.30 Service and 11.00 Service at one of the churches and the other service is cancelled. Please do check the service calendar.
