About Us

St Peter and St Paul is very much at the centre of the village and is the heart of our community. Many visitors look in, including walkers and cyclists – irrespective of whether or not they are normally churchgoers. It is a place of beauty, calm and peace, open throughout each day enabling people from the community and beyond to spend time in the church. It is not uncommon to find folk taking a quiet moment to sit, pray, or just absorb the presence and architecture of the building.

We have made a wide range of significant updates to the church building in order for it to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible. Our worship is friendly and accessible, while maintaining the central tradition of the Anglican church.

Several younger families moving into the village and some now attending church with their children – they especially enjoy the monthly “Sunday Funday”. These families provide new vitality for our church community, helping renewal.

Priors Dean oozes a depth of spirituality coming from its use as a place of prayer and a community gathering place for longer than the period since its Saxon origins. There is evidence of the site being a pagan gathering place in pre-Christian times and, with the ancient Yew tree, is a reminder of how special this place has been over countless generations. This history and continuity as a place of prayer make it an oasis for those who value contemplative prayer and a place for being refreshed in the presence of God.
