Blokes meet at Christ Church Hackenthorpe every other week on Wednesdays . Here Rev Philip tells us more about what's involved:
"Blokes was started by Christian business man, Matt Gavin, four years ago. Blokes S13 started 18 months ago and now meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings in the hall at Christchurch, Hackenthorpe. 15 men meet regularly for a varied programme. We are very aware of the struggles that men go through with their mental health and we encourage group members to share. We also know that loneliness and isolation are big issues for men in these online days and we are developing awareness in ways in which the group can help. Last term we ran sessions on positive thinking, hope, and the healthiness of creativity.
The group has seen a number of strong friendships develop and has enabled members to lead healthy and creative lives. The programme includes Christian input but we also try to have relaxed social events such as a big curry night and mindfulness walks.A typical evening starts at 7p.m. with coffee/tea and pizza and then an hour or so input with plenty of time for discussion, questions and lots of laughter. There is no charge for the evening, and no need to sign up for anything. We warmly welcome any one of faith or none, and anyone who just wants to come and see what the group is about. We have another mindfulness walk on 13th August and then a short break until we meet again on 10th September, then 24th September, 8th October, 22nd October. I am more than happy to chat about the group if you are not sure if it is for you - 07882027473. Philip"
