Scouts gives young people skills for life. We actively engage and support them in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

In partnership with adults, young people take part in fun indoor and outdoor activities. They learn by doing, by sharing in spiritual reflection and by taking responsibility. They make choices, try new and challenging activities, and live their Scout Promise. All of this is underpinned by our Scout values. The values of Scouting are integrity, respect, care, belief, and cooperation.

Scouts at St Oswald’s learn through doing, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges to learn life skills. St Oswald's Scout Group has around 85 young people who weekly engage with a wide range of life skills education activities both indoors and outdoors supported by around 40 adult volunteers some in full leadership roles and some in occasional helper and specialist roles to make the Scout Group function. Most meetings have a time for reflection where young people and adults reflect on how they live Scouting Values and their section’s Scout promise.
