Sadly St. Luke's Church is no more. The church and the adjoining bungalow are in need of substantial investment to bring them up to an acceptable standard. For many years there has been one service a week at St. Luke's attracting about 6 to 9 people. At the time of closure it was being used by only one small community group. For this reason, the Diocese, who owns the site are not prepared to invest a six figure sum for repairs. The Bishop's Licence under which it was operating has been withdrawn and it is no longer licensed for public acts of worship.
This page will be maintained for a little while because it may be the first page that the people of Scawthorpe turn to for information.
The parish church for Scawthorpe, Scawsby and Cusworth is St. Leonard and St. Jude on Barnsley Road at Scawsby, opposite ALDI. We will be pleased to see you at St. Leonard's or at any of the other churches across the mission area.
With effect from 5th January 2026 Father David D'Silva will leave to take up a new post in the Diocese of Blackburn and the parish will be in interregnum until a new priest is appointed. Throughout the interregnum weekday services will be confined to a Mass at Arksey on Wednesday morning and a Mass at St. Leonard's on Friday morning together with a Mass at each of the churches in the mission area on Sunday morning.
