"There is a point where we need to decide to let ourselves be loved by God." In this special Start the Month for September, Bishop Paul and Sarah read from Psalm 45 and reflect on the difference it makes to daily life when we truly know how deeply we are loved by God. His love inspires confidence and brings courage, especially in new seasons of opportunity or challenge. Our prayer is that, as you watch this Start the Month, you experience the joy and fullness of God’s ever-present love. We also particularly pray for those returning to school this week, as well as for others preparing for university or beginning new jobs in the coming weeks. This year’s annual event is on Saturday 13 September. The idea is to cycle, ride, drive, push a pram, go on horseback, walk even—to visit as many churches as possible. In north-east Bassetlaw, there are seven churches within a short distance of each other: Misterton Parish Church, Misterton Methodist Church, West Stockwith Parish Church, and parish churches in Walkeringham (closed but grounds open), Beckingham, Clayworth, and Gringley. Churches will be open from 10.00am to 6.00pm; many will offer refreshments. The idea is to get sponsorship—then half the money raised goes to Notts Historic Churches Trust (NHCT)(www.nottshistoricchurchestrust.org.uk/ridestride/) and half to the church of your choice. NHCT has supported both Misterton and West Stockwith churches in recent years so local support is always welcome. Sponsorship forms are on the NHCT website.
Rev Richard Spray leaves us after the service on Sunday 28 September (at Misterton at 11.00am) after over 5 years covering the vacancy (though we hope to see him, and Rosemary and Elaine, from time to time)! All members of all the churches in the Benefice are invited to the service as well as to a buffet lunch in the Church Room, Misterton, afterwards. If you would like to contribute to a gift and/or would like to attend the lunch, ring Hazel on (01427) 891376.
Rev Liz Mack will be joining us from October and her Licensing Service & Installation is on Monday 29 September at All Saints’ Parish Church, Beckingham, at 7.00pm. All members of all the churches in the Benefice are invited to the service.
