Rogation Day Service

Occuring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Mary the Virgin
Address
Church Lane Lowdham Nottingham, NG14 7BQ, United Kingdom

We invite you to join us to celebrate Rogation Sunday with a traditional service that asks for God’s protection of the agriculture industry, livestock, and crops. In England, it occurs during the planting season.

In years gone by, the tradition was for the vicar to walk the entire boundary of the parish, ‘beating the bounds’, which helped people to know the extent of the parish. Thankfully, we no longer do this – the parish boundary is about 4 miles around! But we will be going outdoors (weather permitting) to pray for God’s blessings on our labour and our crops, to thank God for the food we eat and to celebrate the wonders of creation. We also say sorry for the ways we have abused creation or taken it for granted.

We have a similar theme on Plough Sunday in January asking God’s blessings as the fields are ploughed and sown, and on our Harvest Festival in autumn as we give thanks for God’s generous provision.

You are warmly invited to join us at 4pm on Sunday 19th May for this special annual service, at St Mary’s Church, Lowdham.
