Due to COVID, we were unable celebrate Christmas as we would normally, this also meant that our annual Christmas Fair was unable to take place.As restrictions start to ease for us all, the PCC have decided that they would like to try and bring some normality back to our lives this Christmas. To start with we will be holding our Annual Christmas fair again, this will be held in church on Saturday 4th December between 10am and 3pm.We also want to support any local crafters so if you would like a free stall, please do get in touch, we do however ask for a donation towards the upkeep of the church.Why not bring your family down and see what gift ideas we have in church? This year Christ Church are taking part in Heritage Open Day. This is our first online and in person event. <strong>On Saturday 18<sup>th</sup> September</strong> church will be open from <strong>10am till 3pm</strong> for you to explore and find out how food and it’s production has changed in the last 200 years.To join in online, why not head over to our website, where you will find a wealth of information as well as the history of our church.We will look back in history to what both the rich and poor Victorians ate, We also look at the Rhubarb Triangle as well as two local foods, Yorkshire Pudding and Lancashire Hotpot. As a Fairtrade church, we take a look at Food choices today: Environment, Ethics and Social Justice.Christ Church is the parish church of Sowerby Bridge. This year we celebrate our 200<sup>th</sup> anniversary of the current building, take a look at the Victorian stained-glass windows, as well as our unusual horseshoe gallery.Whilst in the town, why not take a walk to the Puzzle Hall Community Pub in partnership with the Sowerby Bridge High Street Heritage Action Zone, as they host the Sowerby Bridge Dish poll and award ceremony.With regards to the current situation with COVID, the church council have set up a one-way system in church, which we ask that you kindly follow. Today marks the start of our 200th celebrations. at 11am on Thursday 24th May 1821, the very first service was held in Christ Church.200 years, 13 vicars, 2 building alterations, 4 internal alterations, 3 organs and 3 sets of bells later Christ Church is still serving the Parish.Talk of a new church started at the Wharf Inn in 1803. By 1817 after a deadlock of some 14years a meeting was held in the Bulls Head Inn, public subscription was opened to pay for the new church. The site for the church was exchanged for the land of the old chapel with Mr William and George Greenup. John Oakes was appointed as the architect. The foundation stone was laid by Mr. Thomas Dyson esq. on April 22<sup>nd</sup>, 1819.The church was opened under licence from the Archbishop of York with the consecration 2 years later.
