Our History

We warmly invite you to explore Christ Church. The church is open to visitors from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon on Tuesdays and Saturdays. If these times do not suit you, we can arrange visits by appointment. To schedule a tour, please [Contact Us](#).

Built in 1821, Christ Church has a rich history that dates back to 1526 with the old Brig Chapel. For those interested in our historical background, we offer several resources:

A Brief History of Christ Church Sowerby Bridge: This booklet, first published in 2004, provides an overview of our church's history. Printed copies are available in the church.
Victorian Stained Glass Windows: Learn about the beautiful stained glass windows in our church, researched and documented by Helen Pedley, who has highlighted the families who donated them.
The Pipe Organ: Explore the detailed history of our impressive Pipe Organ, a treasured feature of Christ Church Sowerby Bridge.
The Bells: Discover the history of our bells, from the earliest bell to the modern bell sound system we have today.

If you have any historical photos, stories, or other materials related to our church, we would love to hear from you. Please say hello to share your contributions.
