About Us

Welcome to St Philips. When the church was built in 1877 it was at the hub of Birchencliffe village life. Now it stands on the busy Halifax Road (A629) and is just minutes from Junction 24 of the M62. As traffic passes St Philips at 40 mph it’s so easy to miss this beautiful Victorian Church. Ours is a small church with a big heart. It is home to a lively community, aged 0 – 90+ years.

We meet for worship at 9:30am every Sunday morning. On a fifth we worship together as a United Benefice please check for details. We also have a 9:30am service on a Wednesday morning. During the week there’s lots going on for people of all ages, including Tea dances, Concerts, Coffee and Chat Group, Guides, Brownies, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers…………and an annual Pantomine. Sadly we are not able to leave our church unlocked during the week. Please contact us if you'd like to look inside and we’ll be happy to arrange for someone to meet you and show you around. You can park in our Community Centre car park in Briarlyn Road (off Birchencliffe Hill Road) and then walk down the path on the left of the Centre to the main road. Once you enter our gates you can forget the traffic and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our well cared for churchyard which has lovely views over Grimscar valley. We hope we have the opportunity to offer you a warm Yorkshire welcome.
