COVID-19

Sunday Provision During the Current Coronavirus Crisis

Sadly, because of the coronavirus crisis that we are currently going through as a nation, St John the Baptist's, Kirkheaton, and St Bartholomew's, Grange Moor, are closed for the time being. Thus there are no services taking place within our two church buildings until further notice.

But just because the buildings are closed, does not mean that the Church of England in our parish is inactive and dormant. Far from it! Every week, Ian, the Rector, emails (to church members with email capability) or posts (to those without email capability) Morning Prayer sheets and a sermon, so that church members can lead a Morning Prayer service in their own homes each Sunday. If you would like to be sent a Morning Prayer sheet and sermon, please email the Rector at [email protected], or call him on (01484) 532410, and he will email or post these to you.

Additionally, every fortnight, Ian records a service at the Rectory, that then goes on to our parish You Tube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaWXi4BZAxb-kT2E9vv7iwQ/videos. He also emails or posts out beforehand a service sheet and song sheet for these web-streamed services, so that people can be fully involved in them at home. Again, if you would like to be put on the emailing or posting list for web-streamed service sheets and song sheets, please contact Ian via the details above.

Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

Baptisms and weddings are likewise suspended. Church of England funerals cannot currently take place in church, but they can take place in crematoria (with few or no mourners, depending on the crematorium used). Your funeral director will advise further.

Arts Festival 2020

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) has taken the regrettable but necessary decision to cancel the 2020 Arts Festival. We look forward to the Arts Festival returning in May 2021.

Pastoral Care

If you need pastoral care for any reason (for example, if you have been bereaved during this pandemic, or you are ill, or you just need someone to talk to), please call or email the Rector via the details above, and Ian or a member of the Lay Pastoral Team will call you back.

Conclusion

We do hope to be back at St John's, Kirkheaton, and St Bartholomew's, Grange Moor, as soon as possible, and we will update the website when we know on which date church-based services can resume.

Until then, I pray for God's peace to rest in you at this anxious time, and for his protection over you and your loved ones.

Revd Ian Jones, Rector

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (Philippians 4: 6, New International Version)
