Stories Jesus Told Over the summer, we take a break from our exploration of Romans to reflect on the parables of Jesus. Jesus loved to tell stories to help people understand what the Kingdom is like, and to tell it slant in a way that gets past our defences and subverts our expectations. Stories have a way of connecting with the deepest levels of human emotion, so in this series, we listen again to Jesus and what He tells us about life in the Kingdom. 13th July: The House on the Rock: Matthew 7:24-27 20th July: The Unforgiving Servant: Matthew 18:23-35 27th July: The Ten Virgins: Matthew 25:1-13 3rd August: Use It or Lose It: Matthew 25:14-30 10th August: The Sower: Mark 4:1-20 17th August: The Good Samaritan: Luke 10:25-37 24th August: The Rich Farmer: Luke 12:13-21 31st August: Who’s Invited? Romans: The Gospel of God (continued) Paul’s letter to the church in Rome offers us one of the most complete pictures of the gospel and its implications in the New Testament. It is a letter that has changed lives of countless people down through the centuries—from the architect of Western theology St. Augustine in the 5th Century to the father of the Reformation, Martin Luther, in the 16th Century, from the brilliant 18th Century British evangelist John Wesley to modern day American pastor John Piper. Theologian Scot McKnight writes: “Romans is about theology, but it isn’t mere theology—it isn’t abstract theology. If you will, the theology of Romans is about a way of life, about lived theology.” 11th May: Life in the Spirit: Romans 8:1-17 18th May: Present Suffering, Future Glory: Romans 8:18-27 25th May: More Than Conquerors: Romans 8:28-39 1st June: Cross Project: Ascension: Hidden with Christ: Acts 1:1-11 8th June: Pentecost: Wind and Fire: Acts 2:1-41 15th June: God’s Sovereignty: Romans 9:1-29 22nd June: Human Responsibility: Romans 9:30-10:21 29th June: God and Israel: Romans 11:1-36 6th July: Doxology: Romans 11:33-36
Cornerstone Prayer We want to be a church that prays dependently—that makes prayer the cornerstone of all that we are and all that we do. We believe that God wants to bring renewal to our lives, our town, our nation and our world, and that renewal comes when we seek God’s face in prayer. Please join us every Monday morning at 9.30am (term-time only) in the main hall of the parish centre for an informal time of Bible reading, discussion and prayer for renewal.
Church and Online Sunday ServicesThe online 'Lite' Sunday Service, consisting of the bible reading and sermon, will continue on YouTube. It goes live during the afternoon and can be found via the church website.Sunday services are at 10am
