7pm Mass & Homily @ SJE
(Coffee after Mass)

Weds 16th Spy Wednesday, Purple:
7pm Mass & Homily @ Christ Church
(Coffee after Mass)

The Holy Paschal Triduum

Thurs 17th Maundy Thursday, White:
7 pm Mass @ SJE: Institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Scared Priesthood,
Procession of the Blessed Sacrament and Solemn Vigil, which concludes with Compline (Night Prayer) at 10 pm

Fri 18th Good Friday, Red:
3 pm @ SJE: The Liturgy of the Cross & Mass of the Presanctified
Stations of the Cross after the Solemn Liturgy.

Sat 19th Holy Saturday, Purple & Gold:
Church Cleaning during the day at both Parishes

6:30 pm @ Christ Church the Solemn Easter Vigil

Sun 20th EASTER DAY, Gold:
10am @ SJE Solemn Mass & Benediction of Easter Day
(Bring and share Party after Mass).

Welcome to the United Benefice of Christ Church, Staincliffe and St John the Evangelist, Carlinghow. We are a vibrant community of Christians in Batley, West Yorkshire, dedicated to spiritual growth, fellowship, and the service of God.

Tradition and Pastoral Care

​Situated within the Diocese of Leeds, we are affiliated with The Society and are under the episcopal oversight of the Bishop of Beverley. Our parish is further supported by a Priest of the Society of the Holy Cross (SSC), ensuring dedicated pastoral care and a steadfast commitment to the Catholic tradition within the Church of England.

​Our Liturgical Life

​Our worship is centred on the daily celebration of the Mass. We embrace a traditional "High Church" liturgy, designed to engage the senses and lift the soul through:

​Sacred Ceremony: The use of beautiful vestments, incense, and bells to create a truly prayerful atmosphere.


​Musical Heritage: A devotion to traditional hymns and the timeless practice of plainchant.

​

The Communion of Saints: A deep-rooted devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the Saints, honouring their place in our spiritual journey.
