The Feast of the Ascension of Jesus is a significant celebration in the Church of England and indeed the worldwide Church, observed 40 days after Easter Sunday. It marks the moment when Jesus Christ ascended bodily into heaven, bringing his earthly ministry to a close.

Celebrated on a Thursday, the feast highlights his exaltation at God’s right hand and the period of waiting that leads up to Pentecost. Pentecost, which occurs ten days later, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and is often regarded as the birth of the Christian Church, empowering believers to continue Christ’s mission in the world.
