St Swithun’s is probably the only remaining active church above a medieval gate in England. At present, however, it is closed because of the precautions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Our worship on Sundays is shared with the other churches of our benefice and currently takes place on Zoom only – please see our weekly notice-sheet for details of how to join in. All are welcome.
The parish of St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate was merged many years ago with the parish of St Lawrence, forming the parish of St Lawrence with St Swithun-upon-Kingsgate – one parish with two churches. St Lawrence is officially the parish church and St Swithun’s is officially a “chapel of ease”.
