St Francis Church is now a “Roofbreaker” Church.

What on earth does that mean?! It sounds rather destructive! Roofbreaker is a support programme aimed at helping churches become more aware of the needs of people with a disability so that they can access the church and all it provides and - 19th January 2022 News and Notices just as importantly! - take part and contribute their gifts and abilities so the church can be whole. Roofbreaker is an initiative of Through the Roof, a Christian organisation that grew out of Disabled Christian Fellowship and Joni and Friends about 25 years ago. The eagled-eyed among you will spot that the name is taken from one of Jesus’ most famous healings, where 4 men brought their disabled friend to Jesus and had to let him down “through the roof” due to the thronging crowds. As a church we have a strong desire to welcome people – it’s our “strap-line” – You’re welcome here. How do we make sure that’s true for those with a disability? Well, we may need some support with that – and that’s where the Roofbreaker programme comes in. Christine Grew and Helen Kelso look forward to sharing more about this in the coming weeks. Meanwhile look out for the PADI badge – Positive About Disability Inclusivity!
