The ancient Priory Church of St.Michel du Valle was built on a site reputedly associated with paganism. The exact date of the foundation of the church is unknown although it is not unreasonable to suppose that one was built here following the missionary endeavours of the Celtic Saint Sampson, who attempted to evangelise Guernsey in the middle of the sixth century.
Around 968AD Monks from Mont St Michel in France founded a Priory in Guernsey and were granted land to maintain an income. The Parish occupied part of the main Island, and also a separate smaller island, the church being in the latter. The two Islands were joined by land reclamation in the early 19th century
The church has been gradually extended down the centuries and today is a popular place of worship in the Modern Catholic tradition and is a beacon of Chrisitan life for all.
