Eco Church

The Five Alive Parish have registered their five churches to join the Eco church scheme and has started the process of working towards achieving an Eco church Award.

We wish to care for God's creation through our worship, buildings, land, community engagement, and individual lifestyles and the Eco church scheme provides a framework to show our progress.

The Eco church scheme is also an opportunity to work with others who care passionately about the environment, many of whom are already way ahead of the local church on this issue, including our church schools.

As part of this process we include a Eco church section at the bottom of our weekly Church E-News which covers a different topic each week including tips, news and progress.

The PCC of the Parish have agreed the following plan...

THE FIVE ALIVE PARISH ECO-CHURCH PLAN

We recognise and teach that creation care and action to address the climate and nature crises are integral to Christian faith, life and worship. We are committed to responding to this by participating in the A Rocha UK Eco Church award scheme.

Our PCC is committed to do what is practical to help the Diocese of Worcester achieve its goal to become net zero carbon by 2030.

Buildings & Energy

  • We aim to reduce heat loss by keeping on top of basic maintenance and ensuring our buildings are wind and watertight.
  • We will continue to buy 100% renewable electricity.
  • We aim to waste less electricity, waste less gas/oil, tackle any food waste, reduce leaks and wasting water, and avoid unnecessary purchases.
  • We will ‘decarbonise’ our heating where possible, moving to electric heating.

Community & Global Engagement

  • We recognise that the climate and nature crises are profoundly unjust, with the most devastating impacts affecting the poor and vulnerable.
  • We will engage with social, environmental and nature campaigns and charities locally, nationally and globally, as agreed by the Priest-in-Charge and PCC.

Land & Nature

  • We wish to be respectful to those who have relatives buried or interred in our churchyards and to provide a place of peace and calm.
  • We aim to make our churchyards and other church lands places of life and thriving biodiversity, as far as is practical.
  • We are aware that these two aims can be conflicting at times, and we will strive to navigate a sensible path between them.

Lifestyle

  • Our Parish promotes ethical and environmentally aware consumption patterns by individuals and households.
  • We will encourage our church community and beyond to live gently on the Earth.

Worship & Teaching

  • We aim to include Creation Care within our Worship and Prayer including lament, preaching, prayer/intercession, worship resources, training leadership, pastoral care, teaching and discipleship.
