Opening

The church is open Thursday-Saturday between 10am-4pm between Palm Sunday and the end of September, subject to volunteers being available.  We apologise that our opening times are limited but vandalism to our Grade I listed building has necessitated this.

Getting here

St. Denys is a traditional Anglican Church committed to sharing and celebrating the love of Christ within our local community.

Our services are held in a beautiful medieval church containing some of the oldest stained glass in York.  Services are contemplative in style and communion is taken every Sunday.  Sung worship is led by an organ (we are fortunate enough to have our very own organ scholar).

In addition we offer an attractive and accessible programme of regular one-off events including concerts, prayer evenings and cultural and heritage open days.

We would very much love to welcome you to our church.

Service Times:

Sunday - 10am (BSL signed service first Sunday of every month)

Wednesday - 9.30am - please note that from Wednesday 4th October 2017 this service will be suspended due to urgent restoration work.  Alternative venues during this time are St Martin's, Coney Street and Holy Trinity Micklegate.  Their services of Holy Communion commence at 12.15pm.

Save our church from falling down!

As many of you will know, St. Denys, Walmgate, is a medieval, Grade I listed church within the York city walls, housing some of the oldest stained glass in the country alongside a number of other valuable Norman, Medieval and Early Modern treasures. Thanks to a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) we have recently had major repairs completed to not only stop the North Aisle falling down but also restore the stained glass.  However, works to the building are always ongoing so any contributions to help our small congregation will be more than gratefully received.  Thank you.
