Welcome to St Mary's church Huggate in the highest village on the Yorkshire Wolds. St. Mary's is a 12th century Grade 1 Listed building, unique for a High Wold church with its imposing spire which can be seen whichever direction you enter Huggate. The village and church has been the subject of two painting by Hockney.
The church has just undergone a complete re-ordering and now is a peaceful, safe, accessible place for worship and a community hub. The new York stone floor, lighting, heating, servery and toilet have transformed the building where everyone is welcome.
The churchyard has
magnificent views over the Wolds. The listed village War Memorial erected
through funds raised by the village is sited on the south side at the entrance to the church.
