Stations of the Cross across the Benefice

During Holy Week, the Stations of the Cross are available in each of our four churches - All Hallows, Walkington; All Saints, Bishop Burton; St Peter’s, Rowley; and St Michael’s, Skidby.

While the churches are open during the daytime, you are warmly invited to come in, at a time that suits you, to pause and walk this prayerful journey. The Stations trace the path that Jesus took as he went towards the cross, offering space to reflect on his suffering, his love, and the cost of our salvation.

Taking time in the quiet of the church allows us to step aside from the pace and demands of daily life. The stillness of these sacred spaces helps us to slow down, to pray, and to draw closer to the heart of the story at the centre of our faith.

Whether you stay for a few minutes or longer, you are welcome to come, to reflect, and to place your own prayers and burdens before God as you walk the way of the cross.

Maundy Thursday Holy Communion with Stripping the Altar

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St Peter
Address
Next to Rowley Manor Hotel and Stables Rowley (Little Weighton) Beverley, HU20 3XR, United Kingdom

You are warmly invited to join us on Maundy Thursday as we gather at the beginning of the most solemn part of Holy Week.

This service takes us into the events of the night before Jesus’ crucifixion. Together we remember the Last Supper, where he gave us the gift of Holy Communion and the commandment to love one another as he has loved us. Through scripture, prayer and the sharing of bread and wine, we are drawn again into the heart of Christ’s self-giving love and into our life together as his people.

The service concludes with the Stripping of the Altar. As the church is gradually left bare and the atmosphere becomes quiet and stark, we recall how Jesus was taken from his disciples and led towards his suffering and death. The movement is deliberate and powerful - from the warmth of the shared meal to the stillness and emptiness of the night. It invites us to watch, reflect and enter more deeply into the journey to the cross.

This is a reflective and moving service that marks the turning point of Holy Week. All are welcome to come and keep this watch with Christ as we prepare for Good Friday and the hope of Easter.

You are warmly invited to join us on Good Friday for a quiet and reflective Meditation on the Cross.

This service offers space to pause and reflect on the final hours of Jesus’ life through the traditional Seven Last Words from the Cross. Through scripture, short reflections, hymns and silence, we will sit prayerfully at the foot of the cross and consider the depth of Christ’s love, forgiveness and sacrifice for the world.

The themes we will explore include forgiveness, suffering, human need, hope in darkness, and the promise of God’s grace even in the face of death. The service is unhurried and contemplative, allowing time for personal reflection as we enter more deeply into the meaning of Good Friday.

Whether you come regularly to church or are simply looking for a quiet place to reflect at this significant point in the year, you will be very welcome.

Come and take time to be still, to reflect, and to stand beneath the cross.

Good Friday Vigil

All Saints

You are invited to join us for a solemn Good Friday Vigil, a service of scripture, prayer and silence as we keep watch at the cross.

Through the powerful readings of the Passion according to St John, together with passages from Isaiah and the Psalms, we will walk carefully through the story of Jesus’ suffering and death. The service is marked by stillness, reflection and music, allowing time to enter deeply into the meaning of this most sacred day.

During the Vigil we will also pray for the needs of the world: for the Church, for the nations, for those who suffer, and for all people everywhere. Good Friday reminds us that Christ’s love is given for the whole world, and we bring that world before God in prayer.

This is a quiet and contemplative service. Whether you come regularly to church or are simply seeking a place to reflect, you are warmly welcome to join us as we wait in the shadow of the cross and prepare for the hope of Easter.

The service ends in silence.

Easter Day Holy Communion

You are warmly invited to join us as we gather to celebrate the joy and hope of Easter Day.

On this day we proclaim the heart of the Christian faith: that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead, and that his resurrection brings new life, forgiveness, and hope for the world. In our service of Holy Communion we come together in thanksgiving and praise, hearing the Easter story, renewing our faith, and sharing in the bread and wine as signs of Christ’s living presence with us.

Easter is a time of new beginnings. Whether you come regularly, occasionally, or are simply exploring faith, you are very welcome to join us as we celebrate the good news that death does not have the final word, and that God’s life and love are for us all.
