We are a warm and friendly congregation and part of the Inclusive church network. Worship is varied, recognisably Anglican and informal. Lay participation is high (meaning it's not always the vicar leading the service!) We meet on a Monday morning in the church hall at 10am for Bible study and alternate Monday afternoons for community cafe. See our Facebook page for details.
Tuesdays in term time is our toddler group 930-11. St James has regular community events and its church hall currently operates as a space for hire. Our future plan is to sell this building and move community activities and groups into the church. We are planning to redevelop the church building by installing a disabled toilet and kitchen and replacing the pews with chairs.
The church building itself is a rare example of a Paley and Austin design east of the Pennines. The stained glass by Shrigley and Hunt includes some excellent pieces.
Our vicar is the Reverend Elspeth Cansdale [email protected] Mobile- 07828 871080
Our office administrator is Jan Brittain (09.30 - 11.30 on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday )(01723) 341466[email protected]
