Our Building

St Mary's was designed by the well-known church architect Temple Moore in the Early English style, and built between 1924 and 1926. It was extended with a Narthex in 2006 to provide extra facilities. It is Grade 2 listed, as is the Lychgate, and the adjoining style, fence and the Brunton Gate. The Lychgate also serves as the Second World War Memorial. The Memorial for the First World War is located off Stokesley Road, fifty yards north west of the end of Church Lane.


Music and Worship

No regular bell ringing takes place at St Mary's, but bells may be rung at the end of weddings, by arrangement and for a fee.

Concerts are held from time to time in the church. Please see our Forthcoming Events page for any future concerts.

The two manual electronic organ is used for most services.

The St Mary's Festival Choir normally sing at Choral Evensong on the third Sunday of each month and on Festival Days. Subject to availability they are may also sing at weddings by arrangement and for an agreed fee.


Groups, Courses and Activities

Regular youth groups for different ages are held on a Monday nights in the Church Hall. Please see the appropriate pages and calendar on our website for further details.

Other Features

St Mary's operates a 'Fair Trade policy. All refreshments served at church events is 'Fair Trade' and Fair Trade products are available to buy at the church.

Parishioners are encouraged to bring donations to the church and to the hall for taking to one of the Middlesbrough food banks.

Audio-visual facilities are used at the church hall for family services. A sound system, including a hearing loop, is used at the church.

The St Mary's Church Hall, in Morton Carr Lane, is available for hire for private functions and for regular activities. Please see the appropriate page of our website.
