Dear friends,
There’s quite a lot happening across Middle Esk Moor over the next week or so, so I wanted to send a quick update and invitation.
This Sunday - one shared celebration at Grosmont
Sunday 30 August, 10.00 am
St Matthew’s, Grosmont
This Sunday is our Fifth Sunday United Celebration, when we come together from across all our four parishes for one shared service.
Jackie and I have been working on something a little different, with music very much at the heart of our worship. Afterwards we’ll stay together for a shared brunch and fellowship.
If you’re able to bring a little something to share for brunch, that would be lovely, but please don’t worry if you can’t - there will be plenty. The important thing is simply to come!
There is no 9.00 am service at Lealholm this Sunday, so please do join us at Grosmont at 10.00 am if you can.
Thank you for the Egton Show
A huge thank you to everyone who helped with our Middle Esk Moor presence at Egton Show yesterday - those who donated prizes, helped beforehand, staffed the stall and tombola, transported things, set up, cleared away, or simply came along and supported us.
Together we raised £509 towards our joint fundraising for 2026, as well as having a really visible and friendly church presence in the middle of a very busy show.
Thank you. Days like this only happen because lots of people contribute in lots of different ways.
Remembering Olly Foster
A reminder that we will gather to remember Olly Foster and give thanks for his life on:
Tuesday 1 September at 2.00 pm
St Hilda’s Church, Egton
Please continue to hold Olly’s family and friends in your prayers as we prepare to gather with them.
Lealholm Show - can you help?
Our next summer show is Lealholm Show on Saturday 5 September.
This is another really valuable opportunity to be visible, meet people and share something of what our churches are doing across the villages. We’re planning something very similar to what we did in Goathland earlier this month.
We’d love to have plenty of people involved again. Help would be particularly welcome:
on Friday evening after 7.00 pm, when we hope to put up the gazebo and get things ready; and
during Saturday, taking a turn on the stall and helping us maintain a friendly Middle Esk Moor presence throughout the Show.
The Show opens at 12 noon.
If you can help for any part of Friday evening or Saturday, please reply and let me know. The more of us who can be involved, the better!
Deeper In – Further Out
Also on Saturday 5 September, St Matthew’s, Grosmont will host:
Deeper In – Further Out
9.30 am–4.30 pm
This is a retreat day for men, into silence, reflection and fellowship, exploring the theme “The Masculinity of Christ.”
The day will be lead by our friends from The Gathering and will include reflection on Jesus as a man of courage, compassion, obedience and service, alongside time for silence, conversation and fellowship.
For booking and further information, contact Rob Hughes at [email protected].

Do come along and support what should be a fun evening.
So, a busy few days ahead - but also lots of opportunities to worship together, remember someone much loved, be visible in our communities and enjoy one another’s company.
Jackie and I hope to see many of you at Grosmont at 10.00 am this Sunday.
With prayers and all good wishes,
Anthony
