LENT COURSE - Prayer

Occurring
Every Tuesday at for 1 hour, 30 mins
Venue
Thornton Le Street Village Hall
Address
Thornton Le Street Village Hall, YO7 4DS

‘Lord, teach us to pray’, the disciples asked Jesus. They would be familiar with the practice of the synagogues where they had been brought up; they would have known the psalms of David with their longing, joy, anger, hope and distress. They knew they were supposed to lead good and holy lives, but how were they to pray?
They had seen Jesus pray alone; they had seen him go up a mountain to be alone with his Father. They recognised in him an intimacy that was outside their experience: ‘Teach us to pray’, and he taught them the Lord’s Prayer, the ‘Our Father’. God was not a distant force, outside their daily lives; He was to be their ‘Father’.
Through this Lent course we will strive to learn as the disciples did. The sessions are led by Stephen and Tricia; all include time for discussion, refreshments, and finish by 9pm.

10th March Session 3 – The Lord’s Prayer

St Andrew

Welcome to St Andrew's Church. We are always pleased to see people at Church, and anyone may contact the vicar Stephen Treasure at [email protected] about any matter relating to the parish, including weddings and baptisms. Happy to hear from you. We are an inclusive Church, welcoming people of any race, gender or sexuality.

Sermons are normally preached from the Bible passage for the day, and are intended to give guidance, support and encouragement in the Christian life. Lay people do the readings and often the intercessions. Coffee, tea and refreshments are served both at the start of the service (to wake you up when you come), and at the end. The third Sunday of the month is All-Age worship, when recently-confirmed families make a special point of attending.
