Church of England Diocese of St.Edmundsbury & Ipswich Polstead

Polstead, St Mary

St Marys is a delightful church dating originally from 1160 but with major alterations in the 1400’s and 1500’s.

Still retaining some Norman clerestory windows, its stone spire is the only remaining one of its kind in Suffolk.

The interior has rare Norman brick arches and much reused Roman material.

There is a 13th. century font and a 16th. century remnant of painted oak roof.

The church has glorious views and is located up a steep slope ‘road’ adjacent to the roadside bottom of The Pool with rough ground parking at top below wall.

The Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and Children is an important part of the work and mission of our Church.

Those members of the church community who are on the PCC, Choir, Bell Ringers, Flower Arrangers or may find themselves working alongside adults or children, or who may find that they are in church on their own and may encounter someone in distress are expected to complete level "C0" online awareness course (https://safeguardingtraining.cofeportal.org/)or attend a 1 hour training session.

Those in roles of responsibility, e.g. Elders, Church Wardens, Bell Tower Captains, Pastoral Visitors, Choir/Music Group Leaders and Youth and Children's Workers are also required to complete level "C2" training (lasting approximately 1hr 45m)

To make things easier, we have arranged for the 2 sessions (C0 and C2) to be run on a single morning consecutively with those only requiring C0 Awareness training able to leave at the 10.30am coffee break.

9.30am to 10.30am - C0 Awareness Training
10.30am to 10.45am - Coffee Break
10.45am to 12.30pm - C2 Training
