St Mary at Stoke is part of the South West Ipswich Team Ministry, with St Peter Stoke Park and St Francis Chantry, working together to serve the people of South West Ipswich. We are a mixed congregation of all ages and backgrounds from a variety of nationalities learning what it means to be a follower of Jesus of Nazareth in our own time. We believe that no one is excluded from God’s love or God’s Church although we don’t always get it right; we are trying to do so in love and peace and a warm welcome awaits you at any of our services irrespective of gender, age or sexuality.
St Mary’s is the oldest church in the team, a mix of Medieval and Victorian architecture with two churches joined together, we keep the church open during the day for people to visit, to pray or to seek peace and quiet in the business of the day. We meet on a Sunday at 8 am for a quiet service of Holy Communion in traditional language lasting for about 35 minutes. Our main service is a Parish Eucharist at 10 am which lasts for between 60 and 90 minutes with Sunday school gathering in the Church Hall for their own activities before joining us at the peace and in time for the Eucharistic Prayer where we gather as a community of all ages to take, to eat and to remember.
St Mary’s hosts the Ipswich Winter Night Shelter on a Tuesday in the winter months in our church hall, supported by people from within the team and across the churches in Ipswich as a part of our service to the community, more information can be found at www.iwns.org.uk
Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals are arranged in the first instance with the Parish Office as well as information about St Mary’s and the wider team can be made through the Parish Office.
