Christenings
We are so pleased you are thinking about having your child baptized (‘christened’) at St Agnes’s!
Once you have been in touch with the clergy, they will arrange to come and see you at home. They will want to know a bit about why you would like to have your child baptized, and they will also want to talk to you about God and about your relationship with God. If your relationship with God is still in its infancy, that is not a problem at all – the person who visits you will want to help you.
They will probably leave you something to read and arrange to visit a second time to talk about the promises made in the baptism service. After that, a date can be securely fixed for the baptism.
You will need to think about whom you would like to choose to be godparents. Godparents must have been baptized themselves, but others can be supporting friends.
Baptisms normally happen during the principal Sunday service so the church can welcome you, and so everyone in church can be reminded of their own baptism.
A baptism service is just the beginning of a life of faith, and we will want to help you to bring up your child to be faithful in public worship and private prayer. We are always here for you.
