The Plaque - written by Anne Scott

Michael and Marjorie Simon lived near Colchester, next door to their eldest daughter, Janet Holt.

After Michael died Marjorie moved to Fornham House and attended both this Church and St Martins. Anne Scott lived with her husband Dr Ralph Scott at the Old Rectory in the village for 43 years and attended this Church, continuing the house’s connection with the Church and the village, enjoying Village Fetes in the garden. Their three children were married in this Church.

Anne, with Gillian Grinham and Teresa Goodenough abseiled down the tower to raise funds for Fornham All Saints Church. The idea came from Anne’s Sister Fenella Monk who married the Rev Nicholas Monk in this church. Fenella lives in Salisbury and is about to celebrate her 85th birthday by skydiving, raising money to put solar panels on the roof of St Marks Church, Salisbury. She performed a sky dive for her 80th birthday to raise funds for safer childbirth in Afghanistan where her daughter lives and works. She enjoyed it so much that she decided to do another on 14th May 2022 if anybody wants to sponsor her.

Ralph Scott’s ashes are buried in the garden of remembrance at the East end of this church.

The Plaque was moulded from clay by Anne Scott in an oval tin tray and decorated with the white leaves and a rose because the ashes were scattered at Whiteleaf Cross. The nail on which the Plaque was hung was already in the wall so there was no need for special permission to place it here.
