During the current epidemic, certain restrictions on funerals have been imposed by the Government and the Church of England nationally. However, we continue to be committed to ensuring that a dignified and reverent service of farewell is available to all parishioners, recognising that everyone is known and loved by God.
Please call the Rector on 01284 736839 to make arrangements, or ask your funeral director to be in touch.
Funeral arrangements during the Covid-19 epidemic
We are sorry that no service in church is possible during this time, as our church buildings are closed in accordance with the Government's instructions. All our funerals are taking place either at the West Suffolk Crematorium (for cremations) or in the case of a churchyard burial, at the graveside.
Funerals during the epidemic are short and simple services of Bible readings and prayers using the approved order of service, so as to reduce the possibility for spread of infection that a longer service would entail.
Attendance must sadly be restricted to the minister, funeral director and the immediate family of the departed (that is, their spouse/partner, their children, and/or their parents). We are deeply sorry for the additional sorrow and pain this restriction on attendance will cause. Once restrictions are lifted, a more public memorial service can be arranged with no restriction on attendance.
Appropriate social distancing must be observed, i.e. standing two metres apart at all times from others (except those from the same household), with no physical contact including handshaking.
Those who are over 70 or in a vulnerable group are strongly urged not to attend.
Anybody who is suffering from the Coronavirus, or who has in the past 14 days been in contact with somebody else who has/had Coronavirus, may not attend.
Regrettably, it will not be possible for the minister to proceed if the above are not followed.
