'The Bishop of Truro, the Rt Revd Philip Mountstephen is pleased to announce that the Revd Emma Louise Ayerst Durose, at present Priest in Charge at the Benefice of St Just-in-Roseland and St Mawes in the Diocese of Truro is to be Oversight Minister of Penryn, licensed as Assistant Curate to the Benefices of St Gluvias, Mylor with Flushing and Mabe.

In due course the Deanery Plans envisage the creation of a new Benefice of Penryn of which Revd Durose will be incumbent. She will be licensed at a place and on a date to be arranged.'

I grew up in Point, a small village along the tram road between Devoran and Feock. I went to St Kea School, St Kea Church and then Penair before going to Truro Sixth Form college which is now the site of Truro Sainsbury’s. I had a dramatic conversion experience when I was at Penair School, a Methodist Minister called Colin Allen from Lanner came and gave his Testimony and from that point on, whatever life has thrown at me I have known a deep sense of God’s presence, loving and guiding me through life.

I left Cornwall after A levels to attend Birmingham University where I studied Music and English. I trained as an opera singer at the Birmingham Conservatoire before deciding to follow my heart and train as a nurse, so went even further north to St James Hospital in Leeds. It was so cold! Ice on the inside of the windows! But the people were warm and friendly. I worked for many years in the inner cities as a Health Visitor while bringing up my family before feeling another nudge from God which took me in a new direction to train for ministry. 2014, I came back to Cornwall, now on my own with four children and took up a part time position as Priest in Charge of Tregony before moving to St Just in Roseland and St Mawes Churches to be full time Priest in Charge at the beginning of 2020. My parents are both musicians and live locally so I am delighted to have been offered the post of Oversight Minister in Penryn. I have three children who still live with me although they are now grown up, aged between 18yrs and 25yrs. At the time of writing this we have two dogs, but it might be one by the time I move because one is very elderly, and a cat. I look forward to coming to serve God with you and getting to know everyone.
