June 2023Dear FriendsWelcome to June’s letter. May was another busy month - despite all the bank holidays. Here’s a taster of some of the events, along with plans for June. The Coronation of King Charles III was celebrated in all our churches; by a prayer vigil on the eve at St Adwena’s, Advent; morning services on the day after at St Thomas’ Camelford, St Teath and a shared village service at Delabole Methodist Chapel; and by a civic service in the afternoon at St Julitta’s.“We were delighted to welcome all to St Teath church on 18th May to celebrate Ascension Day. Our service was led by Jeffrey, assisted by Reader Sue. Geraldine spoke to us of where Jesus' Ascension fits in God's plan and gave a prophetic word to us about letting go of things we no longer need to do.” GS“Many of us have benefitted from this year’s booklets on “Thy Kingdom Come”, designed for the ten days leading up to Pentecost. We are grateful to Kerstin and Jeffrey for supplying these books. If you didn’t follow it then, there are still a few at the back of our churches. Why not use it in the next few days instead?” GS“Something very special happened on the afternoon of 21st May, in St Julitta's. People from Camelford, Tintagel, Boscastle, Polzeath, Delabole, Trelights and Mullion came to our Wesley brothers hymns celebration and sang with uninhibited joy. The tea was also very good.....! A happy, beautifully crafted event.” MPOn 23rd May, at St Julitta's Rev Jeffrey Terry was licensed to our Benefice as Associate Priest and appointed interim Priest in Charge. The service, led by the Venerable Kelly Betteridge, Archdeacon of Bodmin, was uplifting and beautiful. St Teath choir led our singing and sang the anthem Expectans Expectavi, by Charles Wood. The Archdeacon’s sermon, considering St Paul’s call to ‘maturity and unity’ was challenging, as we approach this new phase in the history of our churches. There was a time of fellowship over drinks and nibbles after the service.Pentecost was celebrated in style at St Teath Breakfast Church. We considered God’s sending of the Holy Spirit as Jesus had promised; the Fruits of the Spirit; the birth of the Church, with a birthday cake and candles that couldn’t be blown out; with a small band, lively songs, liturgical dance and the amazing experience of us all sharing the Lord’s Prayer, at once, in a range of languages - Welsh, Dutch, Spanish, Latin, Italian, Cornish, Seychellois and more. And…* In sad news, we have marked the death and celebrated the life of Mr Derrick Baker [Camelford]. We keep his family and friends in our prayers. We also look forward; events this month include…Thursday 1st June 2-4pm Childrens Activities and Teddy Bears’ Picnic; - St Teath Church; free; all welcomeSt Thomas’ ‘Tea & Chat’ 6th & 20th June; 3pm - 4.30, all welcome for Refreshments, Cake, Chat, Company.
