Dear Friends across the Benefice

Alleluia! Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

What a wonderful and special time has been shared across our churches during early spring. Holy Week and Easter were filled with a variety of styles of worship; here are a few highlights.

Sunday 2nd PALM SUNDAY

11am St Julitta’s, Lanteglos - Holy Communion for all, with Procession of Palms and dramatized Gospel reading. GS

Tuesday 4th 7pm We were grateful to our Readers Sue and Claire for leading us through the Stations of the Cross in St Teath on Tuesday of Holy Week. A peaceful meditation in such a special place. GS

Thursday 6th MAUNDY THURSDAY

The St Teath Children’s Easter activity afternoon was great fun with craft, an egg hunt and games. The story of Good Friday and Easter was shared and the St Teath Easter Garden prepared by many hands.

The evening service at St Thomas was a beautiful and very uplifting time. The feet washing was especially moving and thought provoking. For a service billed “simple” it was anything but, and a fitting introduction to Good Friday and Easter Day. BO

Friday 7th GOOD FRIDAY

10.30am with a stunning visual aid, worship at Delabole Methodist Church was a simple yet profound time, as Rev Bryan Ede led us through the Words of Jesus from the cross. Bryan offered some blessed insights, we sang some beautiful hymns and offered careful prayer.

The Final Hour at the Cross at St Adwena, with prose and poetry, musical interludes and hymns skilfully woven together by Revd Jeffrey and Gareth gave the small congregation the opportunity to meditate on the momentous and solemn events of Good Friday. The beautiful weather and the peaceful setting formed a startling contrast to the darkness and despair that we were contemplating. KL

Sunday 9th EASTER SUNDAY - Jesus Is Risen! ALLELUIA!

6.30am The Dawn Service celebrated at St John’s, was dry but windy; Nigel skilfully tended a roaring fire. The sun shone through our East window at the appropriate moment; God was definitely with us ’in this place’. This was followed by a hearty breakfast of bacon rolls, cereal, toast and hot drinks. Many thanks to the ‘Breakfast Team’. LG

11am Easter Sunday at St Teath was a joyous occasion, complete with worship band, choir and many visitors. We were blessed with Rev’d Simon Betteridge leading our worship, a celebration communion, reminding us of the healing Jesus’ victory on Easter Day brings us. GS

We also look forward….

On Tuesday 23rd May at 7pm at St Julitta's Rev Jeffrey Terry will be licensed to our Benefice as Assistant Priest and appointed interim Priest in Charge. After a long career at the Bar Jeffrey was ordained in 2019 and joined us as a curate in February 2020, just before the first lockdown. Having now retired from his legal practice and completed his curacy, Jeffrey has accepted Archdeacon Kelly's invitation to remain with us as Associate Priest. In addition to his ministry in our parishes Jeffrey is chair of the Deanery Implementation Team seeking to give effect to the Deanery Plan which emerged from our On the Way process. Our Benefice is currently in transition and will shortly be advertising an innovative new salaried post for a minister who will be part-time Rector and part time Pioneer Minister in our more deprived communities in Camelford and Delabole, a post which is an approved part of the Deanery Plan and which Jeffrey, as our On the Way representative, was active in conceiving and securing for us. Jeffrey, as a self-sustaining (unpaid) minister, will work alongside the new Rector when appointed and will act as interim Priest in Charge until then. Jeffrey is also active at the Diocesan level: he is a member of the Diocesan Synod, the Bishop's Diocesan Council and the Diocesan Board of Finance and, as a trained Mediator, sometimes acts as Mediator seeking to resolve disputes which have arisen in churches across the Diocese. We have come to appreciate Jeffrey's ministry with us over the past 3 years and are delighted that he will be continuing his ministry here now that our former Rector, Angela, has retired.

* In sad news, we have marked the death and celebrated the life of Mr Ian Hicks [Camelford]. We keep his family and friends in our prayers.
