About Us
St Mary’s Church is a beautiful and ancient place of worship. The building dates from around 1175 and is still very much alive and active today as a place of prayer and worship. Its beautiful location, setting, and history mean it is still a popular church for holding special services such as weddings, baptisms and funerals. It is visited by hundreds of tourists annually, who come from far and wide to see the church where, according to legend, Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married!
There is much more about living in medieval England than 'robbing the rich to pay to the poor'. Come, step into St Mary's - find out more of what life was like when Robin was in this nick of the woods & the part our church has been witness to for over nearly 900 years.
