About Us

St Mary's Church is a beautiful and ancient place of worship in the heart of Sherwood Forest. It is visited by hundreds of tourists annually, who come to see the church where, according to legend, Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married! The building dates from around 1175, and is still used daily as a place of prayer and worship.

Edwinstowe is a busy village of around 5000 people, with many community organisations and village events. It has a strong mining history, Thoresby Colliery (1925-2015) was located on the outskirts of the village.

The church is open most days during the summer months, although visitors are advised to phone in advance if they are coming some distance.
