All Saints, Chedgrave is a medieval church with two fine Norman doorways. There has been worship at this site for over 1,000 years. The Church is open during daylight hours and we welcome visitors, offering you a chance to make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and also use the loo! Some early 12th Century wall paintings were recently found in the vestry and it has been suggested that the Romans used the site, possibly for military purposes. Much of the stained glass in the East Window is medieval, a lot of it originally from a monastery in Germany.
We cater for a variety of styles of worship, supporting our own and our benefice ‘Committed to Growth’ initiatives. We look for ways to engage with those who prefer a modern style of worship (first and third Sundays), while also providing worship for those with a love of more traditional forms (second and fourth Sundays). On fifth Sundays, the benefice comes together in one of the parishes for shared worship.
On the first Sunday of each month we hold Xpressions Cafe, a form of drop-in church which runs from 10:00 to 12:00. Come and have as much good coffee and cake as you like (free, of course) or go upstairs and participate in Xpressions with its family-oriented craft, songs and stories; or go into the medieval church for discussion or contemporary worship with participation, video, songs and reflection.
On the third Sunday we have All Together Worship, a service deliberately designed to have something for everyone. it has elements which are traditional and some that are contemporary; we value silence and we also value activity and participation; we like to reflect and we like to express ourselves.
We also have more traditional communion services (Book of Common Prayer and Common Worship) on the second and fourth Sundays, respectively; as well as an informal communion on the first Sunday.
In 1993 a two-story extension was opened. this is used by local community groups as well as for church meetings and services.
"Chet News" is produced 10 times per year and is distributed, free of charge, to every household in Chedgrave, Hardley & Langley. On the river Chet there are a number of small boatyards and a caravan site serving the Norfolk Broads holiday trade.
