Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Faith’s

The St Faiths Prayer Shawl ministry began in January 2010. 8 ladies from StFaiths including the then curate began our own prayer shawl ministry loosely based on the original ministry started 10 years before in America. We had no idea how it would take off or how long there would be a need for shawls.

Developing as we went along; we have now reached the ripe old age of 16 and are still going very strong. We have a team of 20 ladies knitting and crocheting shawls, cross stitching cards and praying who keep this amazing ministry going. It is a very rewarding ministry to be part of both from the love and support the members give each other and the love and support we give others.

Roughly 3000 shawls, have been made with love and prayer and blessed in Church, have been given away both nationally and round the world. They are given as gifts to people: to celebrate births, marriages, and special occasions, also for those who are in need, sad, bereaved, poorly or lonely. The shawls bring comfort, warmth and peace to the recipients and for many they are a tangible sign of God's loving arms wrapped round them.

To obtain a shawl for yourself or someone you know, there are always plenty available at the back of the Church, or at our monthly coffee mornings which takes place in the Church Hall the first Saturday of the month 10 to 12, where there will always be someone you can talk to about choosing a shawl, or just a listening ear if you need it. Another option is to contact the prayer shawl ministry via the church office.

Our meetings held every other Friday 10.30 to 12 pm in the St Faiths community hub are prayerful and caring. We have a time of devotions led by a member of the group, and we admire all the new shawls that have come in. Everyone is welcome to join us no skill needed, help and advice given.
