The Community Kitchen

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Matthew 25:35)

After completion of the necessary food hygiene courses, the community kitchen at St Martin’s Institute started with Revd David in July 2014. Initially, the team members were all volunteers from St Martin’s Church. However, as the kitchen became a regular part of the church calendar, volunteers from the local community joined in.

In 2021 Black Health Initiative and St Martin’s Parish Church joined forces to provide two hot meals per week to people in need. They are cooked at the Institute by two volunteer cooks and mostly distributed by volunteers to people at home, and some at the door in takeaway bags and by previous arrangement.

The Community Kitchen is part of the umbrella initiative FAN (Leed Food Aid Network).
