About Us

St Peter's Church, Thorner is a parish church within the Anglican Diocese of Leeds.  We extend a warm welcome to everyone and, whilst we have a fairly traditional heritage, we offer a variety of worship services each Sunday at 9.15am.

On the first and third Sunday's of the month we offer a full sung Eucharist (Holy Communion) service - a traditional thanksgiving service using modern language and hymns led by our gifted choir. We have Sunday school activities for children led by our able Sunday school team. The second Sunday in the month is our All Age service - a more informal service at which everyone is welcome to worship all together. This service has regular input from our young people and junior choir. The fourth Sunday in the month is our Morning Worship service, with hymns, bible readings and a sermon. On the last Sunday of the month we have a Taize service at 6.30pm.

Prayer is also important to us at St Peters. There is a bi-monthly Julian meeting (silent contemplative prayer) in the side chapel on selected Thursdays at 11.30am.

You would be very welcome to worship with us, whether you are a seasoned church-goer or have never been to church before. We would love to see you.

St Peter's is open during the day Monday-Thursday and Saturday.

We additionally have home groups, some for seasons of the year, and others year round. The church is additionally involved in social justice outreach via foodbank collections and Thorner Cares (set up in the pandemic). We have an active Sunday School, bell ringers, and flower arranging team.

Do come along and say hello.
