St George’s Crypt is dear to many at St James’ and celebrates its 90th anniversary in October. Like many charities, St George’s has experienced a reduction in income this year and has generously opened its storehouses to meet the needs of those experiencing food poverty in the City of Leeds. Following a proposal from Tracey Greig, the PCC unanimously agreed to give to St George’s this harvest time. More detail about the current challenges at St George’s was given in a message from the Chief Executive, Chris Fields which appeared in church and on our YouTube channel last Sunday. Chris’ message will be repeated this Sunday and next. You can support the appeal in three ways:Joining our Harvest Quiz: We’re planning a ‘rule-of-6-compliant’ church social on Zoom on the evening of Saturday 03 October, starting at 20.00. Also please note that we may resort to an online only format if the local situation and guidelines change. The papers for the meeting were included in the Spring edition of St James' Life, a copy of which is available to download below. We are all unique individuals with just one life to live. We make our own decisions and choose our own path. Sometimes it works out really well, but often things go wrong, or the path seems to lead nowhere.People make a start with God for lots of reasons. Sometimes they suffer personal hardships and reach out for help, or they meet a friend who is a God-person, and they want what that person has. Some get into trouble, or guilt and shame, and need to be rescued; others just start thinking deeply about life, asking questions, and searching for something more. The Coronavirus pandemic has been a disorientating and life-changing experience for many. Might this be your time to make a Start with God?We will be running a 6-week Start course at St James’ online via Zoom, Monday evenings starting on 14 September. For more information please contact the Vicar.
