Yipeng Xu has been the organ scholar at HM Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace since September 2024. In this capacity, he has played at several high-profile events, including a recording for Classic FM from Buckingham Palace and at the Royal Maundy service. He first started learning the organ at City of London School, where he has been taught by Joseph McHardy, Katy Silverman and Thomas Allery; he also accompanies the school’s Camerata choir. Yipeng attends the Junior Department at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studies piano, composition and conducting. He was previously organ scholar at St James’, New Malden, and will move to Lincoln Cathedral at the start of the next academic year.
