St Denys Church
Welcome to St Denys Church in the village of Stonton Wyville, a peaceful hamlet in the Welland Valley. St Denys remains a cherished part of our small village’s history and community. The church has stood at the heart of Stonton for generations, as a place of worship, reflection and gathering, in times of celebration and of need.
There has been a church here since the 11th century but the present building is largely the outcome of the restoration by the local firm of Goddard & Sons of the 1860s. The building has all the charm of a Victorian estate church, and has some interesting Brudenell family monuments.
In 1498 Sir Robert Brudenell married Margaret, the widow of William Wvyille, the last of the Wyvilles. The Brudenells gained full possession of the manor in Stonton Wyville in 1533. The lands at Stonton Wyville remain in the Brudenell family to this day. The Brudenells are also the patrons of the church.
The church is available for weddings and other events, and also as a film location.
All are welcome. -
