Getting here

an introduction to who we are .........

St Paul’s is the Parish Church of Coven, a village of about four and a half thousand people in south Staffordshire. It is part of the Diocese of Lichfield and under the sacramental and pastoral care of the Bishop of Ebbsfleet.

We are a welcoming, lively, faithful and committed group of people – young and old – who come together for worship on Sunday’s and other days during the week.  Throughout the week there are opportunities for prayer. worship and study in small groups.  An annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of  Walsingham in north Norfolk. . St Paul’s is a ‘Society parish’ which affirms the Five Guiding Principles.

The main parish Sung Eucharist takes place at 9.15am each Sunday. On the first Sunday of each month there is Sung Evensong or another form of prayerful evening worship such as Celtic Evening prayer. Special ‘family services’ are held  on occasions throughout the year.  Low Mass is held every Wednesday at 10.30 a.m.

We are committed to ‘growing’ our Church and we are currently running a Leading Our Church into Growth programme.

There is also a desire to work ecumenically with friends from the Methodist and Roman Catholic congregations whenever we can and the Good Friday Act of Witness through the village is an important and much valued occasion. Holy Week services at St Paul’s are open to members of the other congregations and are faithfully attended.

St Paul’s is also very committed to supporting the work of our First School – St Paul’s CE [C] First School and there are opportunities for members of the congregation to serve as Foundation Governors and also to join in school based worship. The Parish Priest is a Governor of the school and regularly leads worship, including Mass, in school. Children, staff and parents regularly visit the church for worship throughout the year, including the Feast of St Paul as well as Harvest, Christmas. A  special service is held for children in Year 4 as they prepare to leave the school.

St Paul’s has an active and vibrant ‘social life’ when friends from the village and beyond come together simply to enjoy being with one another. These occasions usually involve food and wine and much laughter! Together we are active in raising funds for the on-going life of the Church in the community.

As a community we love our church. We also love to welcome visitors. Should you wish to join us for prayer and worship; would like to come along to one of our social events, or if you think you would like to get married or have your child Baptised in our church, then please contact us. You will be made very, very welcome.

The Churchwardens will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
